Terms of Service

Welcome to Sanctum. These Terms explain the rules that help keep the platform safe, respectful, and reliable for everyone. Sanctum is a digital platform that helps Catholics connect with their parish, participate in prayer and worship, and engage with the wider Catholic community.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Sanctum ("Sanctum", "we", "us", or "our"), including our website, mobile applications, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under the age required by your local law to consent to these Terms on your own, you may only use the Service under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or parish representative.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use.

Accounts identifying as clergy, parish administrators, or diocesan staff are subject to verification against diocesan records. We may suspend or remove any account that misrepresents its clerical or administrative status.

Parishes and dioceses are responsible for the accuracy of the information they publish through their verified accounts.

We want Sanctum to remain a place where people can pray, learn, encourage one another, and participate in the life of the Church. We ask every member to treat others with charity, respect, and honesty.

You agree not to post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that contradicts the basic dignity the Service is built to uphold. This also covers impersonating clergy or parish representatives, fraud or scams, malicious software or spam, repeated disruption of parish communities, infringement of intellectual property, and misuse of the platform for commercial spam.

We may remove content or restrict accounts when necessary to protect users, comply with the law, enforce these Terms, or preserve the integrity of parish communities. Parish and diocesan moderators, and Sanctum administrators, share this responsibility for their own spaces.

You retain ownership of content you post, but grant Sanctum a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and distribute that content within the Service for the purpose of operating it.

Live Mass, Adoration, and other streamed content are provided by verified parishes and clergy. Sanctum provides the streaming infrastructure but is not the originator of liturgical content and does not alter its substance.

You may not record, redistribute, or use streamed content for commercial purposes without the permission of the originating parish or diocese.

The Sanctum Marketplace allows verified sellers, including parishes and approved vendors, to list and sell goods and services. Sanctum facilitates the transaction but is not the seller of record unless explicitly stated. Buyers and sellers are responsible for complying with applicable consumer protection and tax laws in their jurisdiction.

Payments, including those made through M-Pesa via the Daraja API, are processed by our payment providers. You agree to provide accurate payment information and authorise the charges you initiate.

Tithes and donations made through the Service are transferred to the designated parish or recipient, less any applicable processing fees disclosed at the time of payment. Sanctum does not take a share of tithes beyond disclosed processing costs.

Refunds for marketplace purchases are handled according to the policy of the individual seller, disclosed at the point of purchase.

Sanctum can help you keep a personal record of your sacramental journey, but this is a convenience, not a substitute for the official sacramental registers maintained by your parish or diocese. Those parish and diocesan registers remain the authoritative record of the Church.

The Sanctum name, logo, and platform design are the property of Sanctum. Scripture text, liturgical texts, and other third-party content made available through the Service remain the property of their respective rights holders and are used under the terms applicable to each. As noted in Section 4, you retain ownership of the content you post.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time through Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, pose a safety risk, or misuse the Service, with notice where reasonably possible.

The Service is provided "as is". While we work to keep Sanctum reliable and accurate, we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that all content, including user-submitted content, is free of error.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sanctum is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, unless applicable law in your country requires otherwise.

If a problem comes up, contact our support team first. Most issues can be resolved directly. Where a dispute cannot be resolved this way, it will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya, unless applicable law in your country provides otherwise.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by other reasonable means before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
